Job Purpose

The goal is to enhance the language and scientific contents of the Journal by assisting the Editors in creating effective articles, news releases and educational materials as well as by proofreading manuscripts to ensure compliance with journal standards prior to publication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Editing and assisting the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors to prepare their editorials and short stories for the Editor’s Choice that highlight new developments and research findings in the field of dermatology and venereology
  • Improving the article titles and abstracts and contacting authors as required
  • Proofreading manuscripts to ensure compliance with the Journal’s house style and to detect and correct production errors prior to publication
  • Liaising with the medical illustrator and the publisher’s production team
  • Providing support and cover for the Senior Editorial Coordinator to ensure a smooth journal operation
  • Keeping up to date with the latest research through literature, conferences/symposia and online resources


Required skills and experiences

  • 2 years of experience working in the STM publishing or scientific/medical communications industries
  • Excellent command/highly proficient in spoken and written English; another language is a plus
  • Experience in copyediting and proofreading journal articles for publication at a major scientific journal
  • High-level medical content writing experience and understanding of journalistic principles
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to find and correct errors in spelling and grammar, consistency and clarity
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Team-oriented and ability to work under pressure with multiple editorial projects and authors and editors

BSc required, with significant relevant writing experience, or BA required in English or communications, with significant relevant science experience

MD, MSc or PhD in science discipline preferred with relevant writing experience
